Chocolate, Champagne…Face Sniffing?

Every month for the past ten years, I have read an average of two and a half novels of the grocery-store-romantic-thriller variety. 30 books a year at $6.00 a pop…times ten years…brings me to the grand total of: $1800.00. From this analysis, I’ve drawn two conclusions. First and foremost, I should probably consider the cost-related benefits of getting a library card. Second, I’m a hopeless romantic.

Sadly, very few of my own real-life experiences have stuck to the “ideal” storyline of my novels  (boy meets girl, girl gets kidnapped, boy rescues girl…) but as a full-fledged, self-proclaimed romantic, I’d like to join my fellow bloggers to wish everyone (singles, couples, hopefuls, and cynics) a very happy Valentine’s Day!

As a special treat for the holiday, we at UniversityDecisions.com have done a little digging and have come up with the following facts, just in time for tonight’s dinner conversation (a special thanks to the researchers who’ve shared their passion for science and history as well as their passion for…well…passion):

  1. A recent study published in Psychological Science has shown that people are more likely to derive pleasure from experiences they believe to be the ‘last.” Thus, the “last” piece of chocolate is almost always the best.
  2. Got a hankering for the bubbly tickle of champagne? According to a recent podcast on Scientific America, tall fluted glasses allow for a much higher concentration of carbon dioxide than the alternate coupe.
  3. Kissing is believed by some to be the result of a happy accident in history of mankind. One theory is that the practice evolved from earlier sniffing practices!

And with that third and final fact, we’ve got everything we need to make this Valentine’s Day truly memorable – chocolate, champagne, and, yes, a little bit of face sniffing.
